How you can help

The directorship of the Thuto Ikusasa fund has identified that, on its own, it cannot achieve the goals that it has set out for the next three years on our own. The fund has taken initiative to seek out additional funding from reputable external parties whom we believe are aligned in terms of values with the fund. As it stands, benevolent contributions have been received from corporate partners. It urges the recipients of this document to contribute to the fund, in a bid to allow the fund to increase the impact it can make on both current and future students.

MENTORSHIP

One of the biggest things that each alumni member has mentioned is the influential role that their mentor played in their lives from decision making to having someone who is willing to listen. This is what the current alumni want to be for the current learners and the learners they plan to fund.

Therefore, The Fund aims to create a unique mentoring model that allows mentees to identify and interact with Alumni that they believe they can relate to through interactions at the annual  camp which allow for a more natural mentor/mentee relationship. Which we hope will have a bigger impact on guiding a more authentic journey of mentorship. Following this, ongoing mentor-mentee engagement can be negotiated between the two parties, to allow students of the fund to have active engagement with the directorship of the fund, but also means that as funders and administrators, the alumni have unique insight into the support that students require and the challenges they face in their different situations, allowing for a unique level of support for students, but also for funder and contributor insight into the ways in which their contributions are making an impact.

This model is also dependent on the location of students and logistics of meeting up with their mentor, with the idea that mentors and mentees should maintain an accessible and consistent relationship, in order for mentees to feel the highest level of support.

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

For individuals, the fund prefers monthly contributions of any amount that is consistently maintainable by the donor.
For organizations or corporations looking to contribute for any reason, the fund accepts donations in either once-off amounts in increments of R1000 (i.e R1000,  R5000, R10000, etc) in the interest of making the management and collation of donations easier from an administrative perspective. The fund appreciates all donations, and detailed information about the current performance of the fund, information on current bursar performance, or any ongoing decision-making within the fund is readily available for prospective and active donors, in the interests of transparency.
